Dreadlocks in Winter

Dreadlocks in Winter

Christmas is just around the corner and with it, also the Christmas markets, hanging out with friends… and the cold weather! But don’t worry, because with this few advices about how to get your dreadlocks warm and stylish, you’ll get the most out of this time!

Winter is coming!

You must pay attention to the changes. In Winter the air is colder and drier, so your hair and skin start suffering a bit more and they could show dryness signals. A way to add some moisture to your dreadlocks and skin is letting them get impregnated of the water vapor when you take a very warm shower. But whatch out! It’s really important that you dry your dreads really well after the shower. In the 2nd. point from this old post in our blog, you can find some tips about how to dry your dreadlocks.

Cover your dreads.

It’s essential to have a good protection for your head, with which you can protect from cold and keep yourself warm all the time you’re hanging out on streets or cold places. For long dreadlocks, dreadtubes are the best option and they’re also a nice style accessory to give your outfit a touch of colour. You can even use them as scarf! In our online shop you can find some handmade dreadtubes, with 10 different designs, to choose the one you like the most.

Another highly recommended option, especially if your dreadlocks aren’t very long, it’s to use a cap to get them collected. Caps give a very urban touch and they’re really warm, so they’re always a good option to go out without getting your ears and dreadlocks frozen. We really like this reversible dreadlocks cap, because it’s big enough to keep all your dreadlocks inside withouth pressing them a lot, and its 2 different designs allows you to combine its colours depending your clothes… or just because you want to change it.

To get the palm of  it.

This is also a time when, due to the dry air and to cover your dreadlocks, there is extra frizz than usual. To keep it under control, the best is to use the palm rolling technique. It will help you to keep your dreads without all this frizzy hair. But important: Avoid rubbing the dreads with the towel when you are drying them after a shower, and don’t cover your dreadlocks with a headband while you’re sleeping (yes, we know you’ve heard this is something good to avoid frizzy hair, but your scalp won’t be able to breath properly and, especially if your dreadlocks still have some humidity, the cure would be worst than the disease).

As you can see, just paying attention to a couple of things, you can enjoy this special time and keep your dreadlocks healthy and wonderful for much longer.
